The time: the afternoon of Good Friday; the place: the Church of Romont. The ceremony begins with a reading from the Bible of the Passion of Christ. When the funeral procession is mentioned, the congregation begins its long procession through the streets of the upper town.
The mourners, clothed and veiled in black, slowly follow the Virgin Mary, portrayed by a young girl; she walks behind the large cross carried by a penitent wearing a black hood. On scarlet cushions, the mourners carry the symbols of the Passion: a crown of thorns, a whip, nails, a hammer, tongs, and St. Veronica's shroud.
During this time, the town resounds with liturgical chants and prayers, spoken by the entire congregation. This custom dates back to the fifteenth century when the Carrying of the Cross was celebrated as a live representation of the Passion of Christ and as a ceremony of penitence.

النادبون، كَسا وحَجبَ في الأسودِ، يَتْلي مريمَ العذراء ببطئ، صوّرَ مِن قِبل بنت شابة؛ تَمْشي في الخلف الصليبَ الكبيرَ حَملَ مِن قِبل مُتْعِب نادم ذو قلنسوة سوداء. على المساندِ القرمزيةِ، يَحْملُ النادبين رموزَ العاطفةِ: و تاج الأشواكِ , و سوط، مسامير , و مطرقة، ملقط، وكفن قديس فيرو************ا.
أثناء هذا الوقتِ، تَدوّي البلدةَ بالأناشيدِ والصلاواتِ الطقوسيةِ، تَكلّمَ بكامل التجمعِ. هذه العادةِ تَعُودُ إلى القرن الخامس عشرِ عندما حَمْل الصليبِ إحتفلَ ببينما a تَعِيشُ تمثيلَ عاطفةِ السيد المسيح وكa مراسم الندمِ.

Every year in Taxco on Good Friday members of centuries-old Christian brotherhoods begin an annual religious procession of penitence through the streets to the many churches.
I was in Taxco in the mid-nineties and witnessed it. I came upon it quite unexpectedly, I’d never heard of it. The first I became aware of it was hearing the sound of trumpets and chanting, the streets were thronged with people marching. Some of the men, wearing nothing but black hoods and long black tunics held in place by rope, carried bundles of thorny branches on their shoulders. Others were carrying huge crosses and stopping every 15 minutes or so to whip themselves with ropes embedded with nails.
Women and young girls, dressed in white, carried candles in front of images of Christ while others, covered from head to toe in black, walked through the streets hunched over with their ankles chained together or shuffling on their hands and knees
This ancient custom was brought to Mexico by the Spanish 500 years ago. The purpose is to publicly demonstrate a very personal promise of commitment to Christ, not as atonement for sins; though some see themselves as Christ-like martyrs, it’s more usually as a request for the health their family, or for other reasons, only they know (oh! and of course God). I witnessed a very similar Good Friday procession, though nowhere nearly as punishing, in Perpignan in France some years later. كُلّ سَنَة في Taxco في يومِ الجمعةِ العظيمةِ أعضاء الإخوّةِ المسيحيةِ بعمر قرون تَبْدأُ موكبَ دينيَ سنويَ مِنْ الندمِ خلال الشوارعِ إلى العديد مِنْ الكنائسِ.
أنا كُنْتُ في Taxco في منتصف التسعيناتِ وشَهدَه. وَقعتُ عليه تماماً بشكل مفاجئ، أنا لَنْ أَسْمعَ عنه. الأول أدركتُه كَانَ يَسْمعُ صوتَ الأبواقِ ويَهْتفُ، الشوارع عُجّتْ بزَحْف الناسِ. البعض مِنْ الرجالِ، يَلْبسُ لا شيء سوى قلنسوات سوداء وسِتَر سوداء لمدة طويلة حَملا طُبّق بالحبلِ، حَملَ حزمَ الفروعِ الشائكةِ على أكتافِهم. الآخرون كَانوا يَحْملونَ صلبانَ ضخمةَ ويُوقفونَ كُلّ 15 دقيقة أَو لذا لسَيْط أنفسهم بالحبالِ ضَمّنوا بالمساميرِ.
النِساء والبنات الشابات، لَبسَ في الأبيضِ، حَملَ الشموعَ أمام صورِ السيد المسيح بينما آخرون، غَطّى مِنْ الرأس إلى أصابع القدم في الأسودِ، مَشى خلال الشوارعِ تَحدّبَ إنتهى بكواحلِهم قيّدَ سوية أَو خَلْط على أيديهم ورُكَبِهم
هذه العادةِ القديمةِ جُلِبتْ إلى المكسيك بقبل 500 سنةً الإسبانيةِ. إنّ الغرضَ أَنْ يَتظاهرَ علناً a وعد شخصي جداً مِنْ الإلتزامِ إلى السيد المسيح، ليس كالتكفيرِ للذنوبِ؛ مع ذلك البعض يَرونَ أنفسهم كالسيد المسيح مثل الشهداءِ، هو عادة أكثرُ كa طلب لصحةِ عائلتِهم، أَو للأسبابِ الأخرى، فقط يَعْرفونَ (أوه! وبالطبع الله). شَهدتُ a موكب الجمعة العظيمةِ مماثلِ جداً، مع ذلك ليس في أي مكان تقريباً كمعاقبة، في Perpignan في فرنسا بعد بضع سنوات.
